It seems quite difficult to tell whether this note is in tune when you're
practising alone - it's easier when playing with another clarinettist.
You can put various R.H. fingers down with the F/C key; any two seem to
improve the tone, and the better it sounds (i.e., the more it resembles a
note in the next register), the easier it seems to be to hear it in order
to tune it. Fortunately, there is a lot you can do with the mouth cavity
to change the pitch. I've always thought that if there is *no way* you can
produce a reasonable sound on this note, then you should throw away the
reed.
