I think it's to do with market size. And the fact that they seem to
be able to get away with it.

One of the papers ran a campaign at one stage saying "never buy a CD
unless it's discounted", but this doesn't work if you're after a
particular performance. We even had a Select Committee of Parliament
do a report saying the things were too expensive...

For some inscrutable reason, CDs are _even more_ expensive in
Continental Europe, even though we have a single market throughout the
EU.
