In this country, every serious newspaper publishes a list of
significant currency conversions every day. Most (or even all ;-)
such newspapers consider the US dollar `significant'...
However, in default of such a service from the printed media, there's

which will generate a currency table for you on the fly.
Today, it says US$ 1.6285 @-----.00
However, you should note that it's almost impossible to buy American
things here for less than their advertised dollar price in pounds,
(i.e., you always pay a premium of at least 60% for buying something
foreign).
