Well, you don't bite the tip of your tongue! That would hurt! You press
your entire tongue between upper & lower teeth in the front & sides of
your mouth. Try it while you're sitting at the computer -- instant flow
of saliva! (I don't know *why* it works, however...)

Yeah, we often read from poorly printed (hand-manuscript) opera parts,
which can be a drag -- you have to guess sometimes is the dot on the line
or in the space? But we have the clip-on stand lights, which light up
only your music and a small area around the stand. The pit is also deep,
so generally we can't be seen from the audience until we stand up!
