We have a musician here in Las Vegas that has an interesting "day job." He
is the music director (and morning classical music host) for the local
National Public Radio station.

In another post it was suggested that nursing was a good "fall back"
occupation. I would disagree as a significant proportion of nursing
positions involving shiftwork making in difficult to participate in most
group musical activities. Any job with shift work, travel, or where you are
on call (I had them all in the military) can create problems for the
serious amateur and would be worse for a professional.
