Kelly,
Other people on this list had also recommended to me using tenor
sax reeds instead of bass clarinet reeds. The last time I bought reeds, I
bought an assortment of bass clar and ten sax reeds in various strengths
from 3 to 4 (I think it was a total of six reeds?), either Mitchel Lurie or
Rico Royals (they weren't all available in just one brand). Even so, I
found that which reed performed best depended on the day: sometimes the
bass clar reed gave me better "control", and sometimes the ten sax reed
did! (The same held true for the reed strengths!)
It's definitely worth trying the sax reeds, but you might want to
experiment a little (I'd gone to a music store that would sell me
individual reeds, so I didn't have to invest in a box of each!)

Good luck!
