Craig,
I'm not sure if this is very strong, but this is how one of my
friends did it a few years ago. He went to his band director's office
and played a g above the staff (the really high one, with ledger lines)
on his regular Bb clarinet. Then he played a D on the Eb. Obviously,
the D on the Eb was easier to control, and much more stable. The band
director decided that the Eb in the stratosphere was much better than the
Bb in the stratosphere. Also, the tone colour of the Eb is just a little
better suited (in my opinion and in my friend's and director) for a Wind
Ensemble.
Good luck!

Have fun!
