Amy,
Actually, the E-flat solo was heard, faintly. Mr. Band Director
said that is was really pretty from his vantage point, and he was sorry
that it wouldn't carry to the back of the auditorium. One of the local
college professors told my director in a very loud voice while I was
standing around after the concert that he was amazed he had such a good
E-flat player, and the sound was so wonderful, he was sorry he could only
hear it in that one part. The acting was a little overdone, but it was
criticism cleverly disguised as a compliment. Since there was nothing
going on, the solo was heard, but the part about measure 40 ( I don't
have the music in front of me) where the first cornet and the Eb play in
I think octaves, was basically a trumpet solo. I still liked the piece,
it was probably the most fun I have had playing a "junk piece" for the
Christmas concert.
Thanks for the input about my predicament. I'll get back to
everyone of my decision. I am leaning towards the first chair spot
though.

Have fun!

Sarah
