Quite the opposite allen. The humidity is decreased by refrigeration. A
refrigerator dries out anything put inside. Bacteria do not grow well on
wood, the US Govt. discovered this after they forced restaurants to convert
all chopping blocks to plastic and then discovered an increase in bacteria on
these surfaces compared to wood.

What harm is a different question than does it do any good, no offense but
that attitude would border on superstition! :-) (Although I do talk to my
reeds.) I assume we are after science here.
