I think you might be better served by parents who suggest you have
your tongue pierced.

All kidding aside, to me personally it really doesn't seem wise to
insist that someone practice beyond what his or her body can really
tolerate, particularly during one's formative years. It certainly
isn't for me to suggest anything to anyone's parents, especially
since I'm no teacher (nor a parent), but I would be surprised if the
consensus among the educators here weren't that a young person should
not practice beyond the limits of his or her endurance. What does
your teacher say? As Craig Countryman suggests, theoretical studies
would be just as helpful at this point in your schooling, and without
the potential for damage.
