Subj: Hardest Piece -- HOW DO YOU SMEAR???
Date: Mon, 14 Jul 1997 20:03:03 -0400

The hardest piece I have yet to encounter to Aaron Copland's Concerto.
With intervals well over two octaves in the slow sections, three minutes
of cadenza, and a jazzy fast section it's tough. I love it though and
would recommend it to everyone.

I do have one question though... there is a smear from throat A to
altissimo D that ends the concerto (what a way to close!). I am having
a REAL problem with it, and have reverted to doing a quick chromatic
scale as fill, until I master this technique. Anyone have any hints. I
know you need an open throat and lots of air, but the actual lifting of
the fingers is giving me trouble, PLUS getting from A to D
legistically.
