To be totally honest, I feel that any young person who is really and truly
serious about playing a wind instrument would not want to do this to
himself. I find that I have difficulty taking some of these kids
seriously, because they seem more interested in being a mutant freak than
in being a clarinet player.

Score one for the YOUNG fogeys!

Now now you are sounding suspiciously like a mom! I had long hair, headband
and baggy pants with tie died shirts when I went in to Dr. Stubbins studio in
1973. I played well for my age in spite of my freakish appearance! And he
continued to teach me.

And the only thing Dr. S. complained about was having to make sure I was
dressed when I left my lesson (kept leaving a glove, a sweater ...).

A hole in the tongue will repair itself too.
