Roger,

Leblanc does do one model (Pete Fountain) in gold. And I believe you can
order from any of the big manufacturers in gold plating. The problem is you
must take the instrument they send you, with no possibility of selecting an
instrument.

My wife does jewelry at home and makes little wire sculptures and takes them
to be gold plated for a nominal fee. I would bet you could do the same the
next time you have your ax apart for an overhaul. Given the surface area on
the keys I would bet you might end up paying a couple to a few hundred
dollars though. (You could just plate the areas of the keys that come in
contact with your fingers...)

Now I wonder if gold keys would give you a darker richer sound?

Dear jerry K:
Thank you for taking my message as a joke. I was depressed and irritated
at
the time, and didn't intend it as one. Obviously, I should have.
The point about gold is a real one, though. It's just about the only form
of plating which will never (near enough) corrode.
