Yes, I have the same problem as you with tounging. Not specifically,
with a long tongue, but I get that ticking sound. I too have done a lot
of pieces, Copland, Weber (a lot of him!), Poulenc, etc. It is really a
hard thing to describe to someone else. I have improved by focusing on
articulating a single note. For instance, middle C. Try it in divsions
of quarter, eighth, sixteenth, and triplets at slow speeds gradually
getting faster. This should help.

There's probably no one answer to how to toungue, and I think every
person has to find what is right for them. As long as you don't
experience too much of a problem I would say go ahead. Then again, you
may want to convert back if you feel unhappy with the quality of your
artiuclation.

I hope I've helped, as I realize I may not have answered your question
all that directly (to the best of my ability though). Best of luck.
What piece are you working on now? Also, what Weber have you done -- he
is my FAVORITE composer of all time when it comes to clarinet works.

Point to Ponder

There is no such thing as 'soft sell' and 'hard sell.'
There is only 'smart sell' and 'stupid sell.
