I agree. I have the Larry Combs recording of this sonata and "boring" is
exactly the word I would use to describe it.

Neil Leupold asks: "Copland wrote a clarinet sonata?"
Copland wrote a violin sonata (1943) that he then transcribed for clarinet
and piano (1944). He made further changes later on, including transposing
down a third. I'm not sure what changes he made when. Boosey & Hawkes
publishes it. I find it boring, but maybe I haven't given it enough of a
chance.
