I just performed the Stokowski version w/Orch. and heard the 1st trumpet
say "what a dumb arangement" after we played it. (well, then again, it did
come from a trumpet player)....
We sightread it in the performance. The Band arr. IMHO is much better, and
is probably the original, but I'm not for sure.

I didn't see the show, but this surprises me - I would have assumed that the
original version of Stars and Stripes Forever was for band rather than
orchestra. I've played it both ways (on clarinet) and have always felt the
band version to be far superior.
