Hi Jack:

I should have been more specific to start with:

I am a clarinet teacher - I teach private lessons in several different after school music programs, as well as two local music schools. This past year, I had 50 students, most of who are young- ages 8-16. I have now taken on a absolute beginner adult student and am looking for a good method book for him. I use the "Learn to Play Clarinet" Book I by Jacobs for most of my beginners, but naturally, it is for young students. It would be nice to have something that covers all the same basics, but is a little more interesting for adults.

In addition to the method books, I introduce supplementary pieces right from the beginning, for variety and interest. One of the books I use is "The Joy of Clarinet" by Goldstein -Yorktown Music Press. This has great pieces with piano accompaniment. Another good one is "Famous Clarinet Favorites" by Hugh Stuart - Boston Music Co.

Anyway, these supplementary pieces would be OK for adults, but I think it's important to have a method book as well.

Thanks for any input you may have.

Liz

Liz,

What level are you looking for "absolute" beginner, intermediate, or
advanced. If you are beyond the beginner stage, Southern Music has some
outstanding methods books edited by Hite. Let me know the level you are
looking for and I will try to point you in the right direction.

Best regards,
