There is someone on this sight that just LOVES to argue in his
pompass(Sp.!) way. Several of my young clarinet students have been
confused and hurt by this person over the last few years.

Enough is Enough!

You seem to want to remain nameless yourself by the absence of a signature.

It is interesting that you want to frame what has been a very fulfilling
dialogue (for me) as an argument. Perhaps I am to blame for not using enough
of those smiley faces when I write. (Someday I will learn netiquette.) I am
used to a vigorous back and forth that I only interpret as "getting to the
bottom" of an issue. Dan interpreted my rebuttal as maybe overheated and
therefore apologized - giving the impression an arguement was under way.
Really I believe he was apologizing for being too distracted to respond
carefully the first time around.

It is sad to see, from how I interpret your post, that you do not find this
process to be a rewarding discipline. The one thing that a good education
should give you is the desire and ability to keep learning. If we stop
questioning and loose interest in everything that is not within our own
sphere, the world becomes a worse place. I am first and foremost a student of
those on this list (and anywhere) who know more than I do about music and the
clarinet (and anything else). It is my duty as a student to ask and challenge
them in an effort to learn as much as I can. Hopefully others learn too.

For me personally, Klarinet has been a real source of inspiration. About
topics that I never knew, and added to my knowledge of things that I already
knew. There is no greater pleasure for me than to be slammed by Dan or
someone like him (I assume your nameless nemesis above) as it means a
vigorous exchange of ideas is taking place. And a challenge to conventionally
thinking people to open up to new possibilities.

I for one would ask you not to stop fruitful discussions, please.
