Perhaps taking up the trombone? Tuba parts are not as hard to read as
clarinet parts...that might be better!

Seems to me that you need to choose a teacher based on how he plays and
how others recommend his teaching....and then do what he says...hopefully
for more than 1 year. That many teachers can't be screwed up....perhaps
it is your ability to learn from them?
