There is a very informative article on the new pivot screws now used by
Buffet on David Hites homepage. It is

http://www.jdhite.com

The R-13 is still standard issue nickel plated. Silver plating is an
option. It is kinda neat to have young students playing a silver keyed
instrument (E-11), a luxury that as a kid I would never have dreamed of. I
have seen the E-11 Buffet as low as $525.
Have any of you tried the Vito wooden (brushed plastic bell, barrel)
clarinet? One of my students (new student) has one, and the L.H. low F/C
key has No lost motion at all. I don't see E-11's come even close to that
mechanism, unless they were "brannenised;)".

The E13 is not made in Germany (as someone suggested). It is the first in
the range that is made in France, and has proper pointscrews,
silver-plating and French keywork. It is pitched at A-442 rather than 440.
The R13 is made primarily for the US market and is at A-440.

I am afraid I don't believe the story about nickel-plate being banned in
Germany, at least not yet, and there are plenty of instruments coming from
there that are still nickel-plated. The R13 is not of course nickel-plated,
as was also incorrectly stated in another mailing.
