I apalogize in advance if this has already been sent to the list,
but for some reason I don't think that it made it (it didn't come up in
the "recent postings" on the clarinet pages)

I am a college student (non-music major) looking to step up to a
better instrument from my Yamaha 52 (an intermediate). Part of the reason
I want to make the transition is that I have had some problems with the
intonation of the Yamaha (throat tones are very sharp, upper clarion
_flat_ and the altissimo is flat). Could be my instrument in particular
though someone I know had similiar problems with the Yamaha 52.
Anyway, I am thinking of purchasing a used Buffet R13 or equiv. I
was wondering if anyone has any experinces with the Buffet S-1 model.
Witchita Band Inst. Co. (a mail order co. online at) has a used one that
they describe in their write up as "the professional model along with the
R13, but with a slightly brighter tone quality then the R13". (serial
129044 from 1972). Looking through archives here, I found references to
the S1 which seem to indicate that it was pitched higher then the R13.
Does anyone know more information about this model or has had any
experinces with this model?
Also, is anyone familiar with the E13 instrument. Is it
considered a Profession instrument (I know that there is an E12 and
several other E's that are intermediate instruments, I can't find much on
the E-13 other then it is suppose to be very similar to the R13). Does
anyone know what the differences are between the R13 and the E13?

Thanks a lot for any info.
