I recall someone was asking about this work a few days ago. I have a
recording of it (which I am listening to right now). It is his Concerto in B
major for Clarinet in B on a Claves CD 50-813 from 1985 (I don't know if it
is still available), performed by Thomas Friedli accompanied by
Sudwestdeutches Kammerorchester Pforzheim. The two movements are Allegro
maestoso (7:38) and Andante con variazioni (7:55). The booklet has a brief
discussion of various kinds of clarinets (the disc also has a concerto in C
for Clarinet in C by IJ Pleyel and in D for Clarinet in D by JM Molter).
They speculate GSR Mercadante's concerto Op. 101 was written in 1819. This
is not great or momentous music but it is playfully enjoyable, particularly
the variations movement. I'd be interested in seeing a paino reduction
version to try out for fun.
