I had the sheer pleasure of seeing Australian clarinetist, Gabor Reeves
perform this work and he presented himself to the audience as a "slightly
drunken old fool in in dirty clothes, a big coat and hat" . (Anyone who
knows this wonderful man, with his dry,dry wit and striking personality,
and has studied with him as I did, will know he is definitely no fool! Not
only is he a major Ozzie clarinetist, he is an impeccable dresser.)

As the piece progressed, he became progressively drunker takig off his coat
and hat and winding his way around the stage ultimately collapsing in a
slap-stick heap at the end. It was a very convincing comic act enhanced by
his pristine and brilliant musical and technical skills.

He then went on to be a fine actor playing little parts in Australian tv shows!

(Hungarian born Gabor Reeves was Principal Cl. of the Sydney Symphony
Orchestra, Lecturer of Clarinet at Sydney Conservatorium and among other
things, was awarded the "Order of Australia" honor a few years back for
excellence in his contribution to Australian Culture. He now lives in
Adelaide and still teaches there.)
