I strongly recommend Clark Fobes' "Debut" student mouthpiece. Amidst
the recent collapse and resurrection of Klarinet, I don't know if
Clark ever made it back onto the list, but I taught some students
in San Francisco who were using his mouthpiece a few years ago. I
was astonished at their accurate intonation and the ease of tone
production. These were junior high and high school kids, mind you.
The mouthpiece made an unquestionable difference in their playing.
If I remember correctly, it's a plastic mouthpiece, and only runs
around $25. I believe it's currently available in the Woodwind
catalogue. If you have beginners who need a good start, the Debut
has one vote from me.
