Ryan,

I'm not sure when you said "nasal passageway" if you mean the hissing is
coming through your nose, if so, it's sinuses.... ;-) If you mean just
the clarinet, I suspect:

1. Something wrong with the clarinet
2. Something wrong with your embouchure/breathing

1. Check if the reed is completely on the mouthpiece, it might have
moved. Try to remember if you dropped the clarinet lately. If so, it
may be a bent key, loose (or spitty) pad, or crack that is letting air
escape. Check it out.

2. If you still have problems, it's probably a weak embouchure (even the
best get tired) or a poor airflow, probably a combination of the two. I
can't explain it like some people, so I'll give you 2 websites from the
