I agree with your analysis of the details of freezing (drying the wood
etc) but do not hav data to back it up so had not commented.

I would strongly recommend that you keep it well oiled and possibly use
a humidifier. When I moved to South Dakota, my daughter's oboe cracked
the entire length of the upper joint. I believe it was due to the
extreme dryness that develops indoors in the winter. So don't take any
chances. After you have lived there for a while, the wood will possibly
have seasoned a little more appropriately to the climate.
