Subj: Artichoke capital - off topic

Realizing in advance that no one on the list cares, I still cannot find it
in my heart to leave this error of fact uncorrected.

As nice a place as Watsonville is, the artichoke capital of the world is
actually Castroville. They are close to each other but they are in
different counties. Castroville is in Monterey county. Watsonville is in
Santa Cruz county. They are close enough in fact that some members of the
Watsonville band are from Castroville. And the Watsonville Band has also
earned a substantial portion of its funding from selling deep-fried
artichokes at various summer fairs and festivals.

Sharon, if I am correct (and there is no assurance that I am), the
piece you are referring to is the "Concertpiece" not a concerto.
Mendelssohn never wrote a clarinet concerto. The Opus 114, no. 2
is for two solo instruments, though one often hears the work for
a pair of clarinets or else a clarinet and a bassoon. The original
instrumentation is for clarinet and basset horn. I don't know of
a recording for band but it has been recorded by Sabine Meyer and
her brother with orchestral accompaniment.
Hope this helps.
For those of you who do not recognize Sharon's town, it is just
south of me and is called "The Artichoke Capital of the World."
Nice place.
