Mandat is a genius! He wrote a new piece for me to perform last summer in
Paris at the ClarinetFest. It is 11 minutes long, and the most difficult
piece I've ever performed! I have most all of my advanced students do at
least one of his works.

>>
>> Francaix - Theme and Variations
>> Hindemith - Sonata or Concerto (the concerto almost requires two
>pianists however)
>> E. Denisov - Sonata for clarinet and piano (a newer newr work (1991)
>that is very similar to his unaccompanied sonata. He uses quarter
>tones to achieve melodic line, terrific piece)
>> E. Mandat - Folk Songs or Tricolor Capers
>> Bernstein - Sonata for clarinet and piano
>> S. Tanejev - Canzona (there's a reduction for clarinet and string
>quartet if you can find it, about 8 mins. long)
>> Rudolf Moser - Concerto (written 1960, pretty tonal)
>> P. Chihara - Sonata for clarinet and piano (very nice tonal work written
>in 1996)
>> Prokofiev - Sonata op.94 (transcription of the violin/flute sonata,
>highly recommended)
>> Castelnuovo-Tedesco - Sonata for clarinet and piano (also highly
>recommended)
>> Kupferman - Moonflowers Baby! (unaccompanied)
>>
>> That's a partial list and only the stuff which, again, "sounds nice".
>If you want a list of contemporary pieces that sound more "modern" then

>>
>> Einar Englund Concerto. I'm not sure this has been published yet, but
