Hi, Well I am one of those poor unfortunate people who still is playing a
plastic student clarinet, even after playing for 5 years (as clarinets are
too dear in Australia, as compared to the US). I used to use the
mouthpiece that came with it and never really thought about what a new
mouthpiece could do until my teacher suggested getting one for my Year 12
studies. I eventually got a Vandoren B45, and was absolutely amazed at
the difference. The chameleau (is that how it is spelt?) register seemed
much richer and fuller, with the higher registers becoming more in tune,
and with a clearer quality to them. I think that my sound out of my good
ol' Yamaha C100 was improved 100%, and here in Australia, this is a very
common practise, to keep the plastic clarinet and just get a better
mouthpiece until you become very serious (Usually at University), and
require the better sound of a wooden clarinet.

Speaking of that, can anyone tell me about how may be able to purchase a
clarinet from places in the US and ship it to Australia. Over here, you
can save thousands of dollars doing it that way!

Love..... x x
