The Woody Herman band played an arrangement of Gabriel Faure's "Pavanne,"
actually, "Pavanne pour une enfante defunte," or "Pavanne for a Dead
Princess." It was arranged by Gary Anderson, one of the saxophone players
in the band, and it featured him (Anderson) playing an improvised solo on
bass clarinet (and sometimes bassoon, I think). Another fairly unusual
feature of this particular jazz version is that it features the picclo
trumpet. The arrangement has been published, I think by Warner Brothers
Music Publications. It was recorded, but I can't remember which album.
Are you trying to locate sheet music, the jazz band arrangement, or a
recording? If you want to play the basic melody on the clarinet, look for
it in the music of Faure.
