I'm with Dan Leeson on the idiotic nature of Ted Lane's note re:Combs; as
a former student of James Campbell, I've been improvising short diatonic
phrases at the 2 pauses in the 1st mvt, but found Dan's thoughts about
suitable places in the 3rd mvt. right on. Please, let's not start a nasty
tone on here that will drive others with useful insights off the list;
having never heard of Ted before, I'm not sure he's in any position to be
apparently putting down a well-respected and published clarinet scholar;
I have the Toronto Chamber Winds recording of the Mozart K.361 with Dan
on it, and it's terrific!

Way to go Dan,

Peter Stoll
Instructor of Clarinet and Chamber Music
University of Toronto
