Hello, I'm Mel. As a newcomer and cyber pal of Craig, I humbly supply my
opinion to the K. 622 discussion.

Unfortunately, I did not hear the under performed Mozart on NPR last
night. However, out of intense curiosity, I listened to it on the MIDI
web page (it's linked to Craig's page, look at the end of his mail to get
it).

Everyone knows that while computer technology is absolutely fascinating
to the mind, it cannot express any type of emotion, so I figure that can
be an acceptable substitute for the NPR.

The MIDI clearly showed Mozart didn't want this to be a technical piece,
but more emotional.....I personally feel great music not only is
interesting to listen to but is moving to the audience. A clear example
in contemporary music(off-topic, I know) today is hit country/gospel
song "Butterfly Kisses". It's about a father watching his daughter grow
up. As Carlistle (spelling?) wrote this for his daughter it meant a lot
to him, and since every parent can understand this, it becomes a very
beautiful song.

My point is the player can't just play notes off the page. No matter how
great the writer, it is up to the player himself to make the music
beautiful by his own emotions, like an actor makes a character alive.
This is what makes all music beautiful.

I know took a lot of space, but thanks for being patient.

Mel
