Deborah,

And by no MEANS did I suggest that Mozart was boring!! What was boring
was the performance, and why it was boring was a lack of improvisation.
Mozart, in all his genius, left specific places for this improvisation
and my arguement is not against Mozart, but against most who perform his
work today!

The performer was not at fault for a failure to play all the notes,
dynamics, and articulations correctly, but that he did not make MUSIC
with the piece in accordance with how it would have been played during
the classical period.

You must concede that when the same thing is repeated five times it
begins to lose its charm... Obiviously the people of the classical era
realized that, and that's why the opportunity to improvise (and that's
why everyone did it!). If you don't the PERFORMANCE is boring, and I
was using the example to illustrate a wider problem (as I see it.)

I apologize if you misinterpreted my words -- Mozart was a genius, and
he would be pretty ticked if he heard what I heard last night!
