Besides being a clarinetist, I'm also an amateur military historian whose
interest in aircraft. I have seen references concerning Italian military planes
used in WWII which used the word "bis". If I remember correctly, the term
denoted a modification of the basic model of the airplane. This key may have
originally been just a modification, and after becoming standard equipment,
retained the original term.
