Michael
I am a student of Eric Mandats' and could put you in touch with him if
there is any info that you might need from him. I've been trying to get
him to resubscribe but he is enormously busy. He has another piece called
"The Jungle" and a book of Preludes which I believe are along the lines of
the other two pieces you mentioned. He has a piece that I have wanted to
get a look at but haven't called "Etude for Barney" I am not so much of a
contemporary player, but Eric is very tolerant of me and my classical
roots. I think it drives him a little nuts sometimes, though :^)

quite a time. If you're looking for some 20th century suggestions that
"sound nice" here's whatI can think of.

> Francaix - Theme and Variations
> Hindemith - Sonata or Concerto (the concerto almost requires two
pianists however)
> E. Denisov - Sonata for clarinet and piano (a newer newr work (1991)
that is very similar to his unaccompanied sonata. He uses quarter
tones to achieve melodic line, terrific piece)
> E. Mandat - Folk Songs or Tricolor Capers
> Bernstein - Sonata for clarinet and piano
> S. Tanejev - Canzona (there's a reduction for clarinet and string
quartet if you can find it, about 8 mins. long)
> Rudolf Moser - Concerto (written 1960, pretty tonal)
> P. Chihara - Sonata for clarinet and piano (very nice tonal work written
in 1996)
> Prokofiev - Sonata op.94 (transcription of the violin/flute sonata,
highly recommended)
> Castelnuovo-Tedesco - Sonata for clarinet and piano (also highly
recommended)
> Kupferman - Moonflowers Baby! (unaccompanied)

If you want a list of contemporary pieces that sound more "modern" then
I've got a HUGE list. I tried to get your original list posting so that I
could see what you had planned already and exactly what it is that you
wanted. I was unable to do so. If anyone needs any help with musi of the
twentieth century (particularly music written after 1950) please feel free
to ask. I'd love to see more of this music being played, so I'd be more
than happy to help in any way that I can. I wish Eric Mandat and Nathan
Williams were on this list though, they're two of the "biggies" in that
world. Let me know if you need anything more and what you decide to put
on the recital. Good luck Neil.
