I was recently given an old metal clarinet - a Cavalier model, made in
Elkhart, Ind., serial number 62536. I've taken upon myself the job of
polishing it up so it looks beautiful again. After I'm done cleaning it
up,
I'm going get it reconditioned so it's playable. My main interest in
this is
the historical value of this instrument, I don't intend to perform using
it.

At the risk of being laughed off mailing list, it occurred to me that
one of
the clarinet repair persons on this list might be interested, for
curiosity or
whatever reason, in doing this work. I'm not asking for free work, I'd
expect
to pay the usual going price, of course. It needs to be completely
recorked and repadded, and some (all?) of the springs need to be
replaced as well.

Interestingly (to me, anyway), almost all the springs in this beauty
actually
ARE needles. It makes polishing it interesting, to say the least (ow!).

Any one interested?

Kathy Beatty
