Whoa!!! Don't mount the horse and ride off in all directions.

Improvisation in what? Jazz, classical music? Which.

And if the answer is "classical music" then the next issue has to
do with which eras tolerated or encourage improvisation during
performance, and which eras simply forbad it. Improvising during
the Brahms Quintet simply has no precedent, nor purpose. It is
not music designed to tolerate performer creativity within the
framework of the music.

Mozart, early Beethoven, Schubert, that's a different story.

So please explain yourself. Be more precise and start again.
