In the Mozarteum, there is microfilm of every autograph in Mozart's
hand as well as a great deal of material for which no autograph
exists. I saw the basset horn concerto manuscript before I ever
saw a facsimile of it. When I held it in my hands, I was afraid
to breathe. There is, of course, no manuscript for the version
that we all play, K. 622 and the basset horn concerto even
carries a different K. number. It's K. 621b.
