Rich--

I highly recommend Brannen Woodwinds in Evanston, Illinois. They are near
you, so shipping won't take too long. They advertise in The Clarinet, and
were the subject of a number of adulatory postings last year and this (do a
search on sneezy, if you can get on the internet). Phone (847) 866-7576 on
Tuesday, Thursday or Friday. Address: 908 Hinman Avenue, Evanston, IL
60202. I'd recommend having the Brannens do a complete workup, like they'd
do for a brand new instrument. I have shipped my instruments to them UPS
for years without trouble. Be sure to pack with lots of styrofoam pellets
or whatever, and be sure to insure, of course. Good luck!

Subject: Buffet R13 Overhaul

I have a Buffet R13 (approximately 3 years old) which needs complete
repad/overhaul. It has been done by local music store general repair
person, but pads become discolored and worn very quickly. It has never
been "thoroughly" adjusted/reworked (if that's necessary) by a "clarinet
specialist". Recomendations, i.e., pad types (pros/cons), general cost,
clarinet specialists-does one trust UPS for shipping?
