The Token Creek Chamber Music Festival takes place each August near
Madison, Wisconsin. The artistic directors are John and Rose Mary
Harbison. The Festival venue is the converted barn at the Harbisons' farm,
through which Token Creek flows (the farm, not the barn). We are about to
send out our initial 1997 Festival mailing, and if any of you think you
might be interested in attending I will add you to our mailing list (e-mail
me off the list).

This year the Festival features soprano Marni Nixon; pianists Robert D.
Levin, Leonard Stein, Judith Gordon, and John Harbison; violinist Rose Mary
Harbison; cellist Rhonda Rider; and percussionist Maya Gunji in works by
Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Debussy, Schoenberg, Webern, Gershwin and
Harbison. Among other events, Mr. Stein will present a lecture-recital on
Beethoven's "Hammerklavier" Sonata, and will join Ms. Nixon in Schoenberg's
Cabaret Songs and Webern's Opus 3 songs. The Festival runs from August 23
through August 31. Madison is beautiful that time of year.
