In the interest of calibrating our vocabulary, how about we try describing a
particular sound?
I understand Leeson's apprehension about using words such as "dark" or
"bright" that seem to be preloaded with subjective meaning (dark@-----.
I also have heard a sound recently that I would describe as bright. Or rich
in overtones. A non American sound that I find particularly interesting and
enjoyable. This is a recording on CPO 000 302-2 by the ensembe incanto of
Hindemith's Clarinet chamber music. The clarinettist is Ralph Manno (German).
How do other people describe his sound?
