Ed, I believe the ligatures are of brass and then plated. Platers will
copper flash the brass then silver plate it. In order to gold plate, they
will copper flash the brass, silver plate it then gold plate it. Gold
sticks better to silver. What the exact make up of the brass (%'s) of the
Harrison ligature is, I don't know. (Brass is a mixture of copper, tin, and
zinc)
