Hi Lisa,

It's been my experience that a "growl" is a lot easier on a sax (tenor)
than a clarinet, possibly because of the larger mouthpiece and the looser
embouchure. Anyway, the way I produce a "growl" effect is to play while
producing as sound almost like clearing one's throat. I haven't had
occasion to try this on clarinet, but in principle, the technique should be
similar. Once you find a technique that works for you, it doesn't take much
practice to be able to slip in and out of it easily.
