I've been wondering if I should consider a re-facing job on my rather
old mouthpiece, and wondered if others with experience with this might
comment. I play on a Wells B2 that probably dates from the mid 60's. For
me it is the best mouthpiece I've ever played on. I'm not experiencing
problems that I would relate to the mouthpiece, at least as far as I can
tell. Looking at the facing at the tip I see quite a few imperfections,
tiny chips and irregularities. Does anyone have an opinion if these
imperfections cause certain characteristic problems? Would a refacing be
a good idea? I'm certainly leery of doing anything to this mouthpiece
since I think it plays so well. If a refacing might be a good idea,
then who? I believe Wells himself (from Chicago) is long gone. TIA.
