I've never "heard my breath in the tone", at least as I would describe it.
The closest thing I recall which might be similar was when I was
"auditioning" a used A R13 Buffet, which I eventually purchased. I
complained to my teacher that certain notes sounded "fuzzy". He said that he
couldn't hear it from more than a few feet away and to be more concerned with
pitch and intonation. I later found that the fuzzy sound disappeared with a
slightly softer reed (or a reed adjustment). The problem I had was primarily
in the notes from middle C to throat Bb.
