Hi Steve - I don't know if Rossi's is the same as the Stubbins-Kaspar
mechanism, but yes it is to make the throat Bb sound better and also to
improve intonation in the upper register. It works admirably for both
purposes (I've been playing Rossi clarinets for about seven years now).
