I would be very interested to know if anyone on the list has heard all 7 of
these performers play in live performance.

Ricardo Morales gave arguably the most dazzling recital I have ever heard
at ClarinetFest '95 in Tempe, Arizona (not to mention an absolutely
stunning performance of the Nielsen Concerto at ClarinetFest '92 in
Cincinnati).

Many people attending ClarinetFest '96 in Paris, felt that the 2 standout
performers there were Phillipe Cuper and Antonio Saiote. Cuper has
performed in this country before, but this will be Saiote's first trip to
the U.S. Rene has performed at ICA events in the past.

Rafael Bagdasarian is the first clarinetist listed in Pamela Weston's book,
"Clarinet Virtuosi of Today." This is a most impressive creditial (even
though my teaching assistant pointed out to me that the artists featured in
this book are listed in alphabetical order). Rafael has personal friends in
Lubbock and has visited here before. He has performed in the U.S. only a
few rare times in the past.

I have the pleasure of hearing Steve Girko fairly regularly since my
younger brother Scott plays in the bassoon section of the Dallas Symphony.
A former student of the late Leon Russianoff, Steve has never played at a
conference of the International Clarinet Association before. The Sargon
piece he will perform was written for him and is a certain crowd pleaser.

I have had the pleasure of hearing Christie Lundquist play several times on
visits to my in-laws in Salt Lake City. Christie is without a doubt one of
the finest performers on our instrument, but because she keeps a relatively
low profile, many people have never had the chance to hear this wonderful
artist. You should notice that she is including one of her own
compositions in her program. I can't wait to hear it!!!

MAKE PLANS NOW TO ATTEND CLARINETFEST '97
