I might add to this that the sound *you* hear may well be something different
than what others hear. Your impression of your own tone could be a
combination of "normal" sound (by air conduction) and sounds transmitted to
your ears internally through bone conduction. A long story, but I played
double lip embouchure for years, simply because I didn't like the sound I
made with single lip.

My teacher pointed out that I sounded the same to him with either embouchure.
A rubber patch allows me to play single lip and be satisfied with the sound.

This teacher also said that mouthpiece changes did not change my sound and I
think I would agree. Some mouthpieces made it easier to play in tune at a
variety of dynamics, but I still retained *my* basic sound.
