While scales and arpegigios aree something most of us will evrentuall have
memorized The method books are a big help. First off we don't always have
the time to first write them down or practice them enough to have them
memorized. Being able to see the music lets you focus more clearly on
mastering the fingering and getting accustomed to the scale. Secondly The
method books don't just write don the scale and aprpeggios. They add
numerous variations that allow me at least to become more familiar with the
scale in its entiriety. I mean how often do you see music that is merely
just a simple scale. The methid books usually do an excellent job at
including different variations that will make palying difficult passages
easier and sight reading eassier.
