I also have a problem with playing consistently sharp. I recently played
for my schools' music faculty and the resounding comment was sharpness in
intonation. I am playing a Buffet R13 with a hand bored mouthpiece by Rick
Sayre in Chicago. My reed strength is 3 1/2 Vandoren. I live in Southern
Illinois and the weather is constantly changing, however, I try to keep my
instrument at a consistent temperature. I have to pull out at every joint
a great deal at times to get in tune. I have played for 15 years. Is there
any exercise or reed changes that I should make? The mouthpiece is
relatively new and made some difference. My intonation starts good but
gets worse as I go along. Even in my 8 minute piece last week, my
intonation changed greatly. Thanks in advance for any advice.
